There is something of an end of the 70s Black Uhuru sound to this positive, hard roots rocking message about Rastafari countering “brainwash education”. Singer Idren Natural a.k.a. Peter Dosanjh, is a veteran of the dub scene and has a lengthy discography, starting with Dread & Fred way back, mainly on singles though he has also had three albums in that time too.
What A Joy is produced by Tim “Slimmah Sound” Baumgarten, based in Groningen, The Netherlands, as is the deep, heavy, depth-charging dub of course, and both sides have fine hand percussion playing a prominent role. The musical warrior is still strong and this is indeed a joy, lovely roots-rock-reggae.
Please note: The 12” single release has Kazam Davis’ tune Haile Jah as an extra on the B-side, followed by the dub.
