Also known as Fyakin, singer Nyle Banks a.k.a. Nicholas Lewis has been described as sounding like a veteran, seasoned pro – he certainly knows his way around the older reggae sound, though he was born in Kingston in 1988 (listen to Love Sponge). Even when he is tackling a dancehall tune like the album opener, he sounds like a top-notch, experienced reggae veteran with a vast amount of knowledge about the music and its history. He brings this to bear on many tunes here, and also has some strong guests helping out. He sings “culture music, life music”, including conscious and respectful love songs.
There are deep roots tunes like the unusual, and one of the most popular songs on this release, Children Of Far I (with Kabaka Pyramid), One By One and Glass House (the latter with Lutan Fyah guesting), and the lover’s numbers include Lifetime and the praise for his Queen that is The Way You Love. He duets with older brother Neu Mowatt to look for the good sensi on the more up tempo Saddle Up, whilst he sings the praise of the reggae session on the opening Open And Ready.
So this is a well-rounded set from a well-rounded talent. If you haven’t done so already, check him out – this album is an excellent way to make his acquaintance.
