Rootsriders featuring Mo Ali pay tribute to Bob Marley’s 1975 live album, which includes the iconic version of No Woman No Cry. In 2004, the influential American magazine Rolling Stone ranked the song at number 37 in their list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. On Thursday, September 25, they will perform at Patronaat.
Thanks in part to the success of No Woman No Cry, the live album went on to sell more than 1 million copies worldwide (100,000 in the Netherlands alone), numbers unheard of at the time for a reggae band. On this tour, Rootsriders will also dive into their personal favorite Marley songs.
Rootsriders was originally founded to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Bob Marley’s passing, and over the years, the band has become a mainstay in the Dutch live circuit. Singers Giovanca Ostiana and Shirma Rouse, as well as former The Voice runner-up Mitchell Brunings, whose blind audition of a Marley song went viral worldwide, are among their notable former members. The current lead singer, Mo Ali, was discovered via social media in Sudan. In 2022, the band reached the finals of the SBS6 TV show The Tribute: Battle of the Bands. As a reward, they performed that same year at a sold-out Ziggo Dome, together with the other three finalists from the show.
