Released by London’s Soul Jazz Records on 2xLP, CD, and streaming platforms, Soul Jamaica is a vibrant compilation of reggae-infused soul and funk from the Studio One vaults. The collection showcases an impressive roster of artists including Jackie Mittoo, The Heptones, The Gladiators, Sim Smith, Peter Tosh and The Wailers, Cedric ‘Im’ Brooks, among others. During a brief but brilliant period in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Studio One produced a handful of exceptional soul and funk reggae tracks, with Jamaican artists reinterpreting classics by Sly and The Family Stone, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Nina Simone, Gene Chandler, Tyrone Davis, and more. Many of these tunes were originally issued only through Studio One’s UK subsidiary label, Bamboo, in limited pressings. After being extremely hard to find, they’re now made available again through this compilation set.
