MC Brother Culture from Brixton, London SW9 has been a prominent figure in UK reggae and dub for many years, as well as reaching into other related styles. He released his 40th Anniversary album in 2022.

Here the title track opens the album with a slab of tough, uncompromising, roots dub reggae, setting the stage for this album in fine style. Culture bigs up sound system culture, rails militantly against greed and poverty, and offers up thanks and praise to Jah. Try a track like the individual sounding Some A Dem, or Dubplate King which combines all the above elements, with Culture correctly exclaiming “I man play crucial, critical dubwise music” – but every track here is well worth hearing.

He works with the likes of Derrick Sound, Little Lion Sound, Champion Sound, OnDubGround, Ed Solo – the latter with a drum and bass remix of Sound Killer – and others. Guest collaborators include the justifiably upcoming Junior Dread and Eesah, plus veterans King Kong (wonderfully summoning up the 80s sound on Reggae In The Dance), and with Anthony B and Chezidek helping out on Champion Sound. There are also four remixes and four dubs, including a jungle style dub remix of that just-named track by Krak In Dub.

Militant, conscious music for these troubled times – check it out!
