Changing For You is out now! A reissue that brings back Delroy Wilson (who passed away in March 1995) in fine style. The album collects recordings from 1981 to 1985, produced by Rodguel “Blackbeard” Sinclair, with Sly & Robbie and the Taxi Gang. Many of these tracks first came on Sinclair’s Mr. Tipsy label, but never got the wider attention they deserved until now.
The set carries both vocal and dub cuts, showing Delroy’s voice at its most soulful and direct. On the title track Changing For You he rides the heavy Taxi grooves with that mix of tenderness and strength that made him one of Jamaica’s greatest singers. And who doesn’t want to hear the fantastic Traveling Man again?
Delroy Wilson’s story runs deep in Jamaican music. From his teenage years at Studio One in the ska days, through rocksteady and roots, he earned the title “The Dean of Reggae.” His voice could cut through a sound system clash or melt a love song, always with honesty. Although he left us in 1995, albums like Changing For You remind us why his place in reggae history is so significant.
