Angela Laverne Brown, known to the world as Angie Stone, was a trailblazing American singer-songwriter, rapper, actress, and producer whose remarkable career spanned more than four decades. She first emerged in the spotlight as Angie B. in 1979, gaining recognition as a member of The Sequence, the pioneering all-female hip-hop group that helped shape the genre’s early sound. In the early 1990s, she joined the R&B group Vertical Hold, further showcasing her vocal prowess and versatility. By the end of the decade, she embarked on a solo career as Angie Stone, signing with Arista Records and releasing her debut album Black Diamond, which marked the beginning of her soulful ascent. Her 2001 follow-up, Mahogany Soul, released under J Records, featured the hit Wish I Didn’t Miss You. The single resonated globally, climbing into the top ten across multiple international charts and earning a gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry. On March 1, 2025, the music world was shaken by the tragic loss of Angie Stone. At age 63, she was killed in a car accident near Montgomery, Alabama.
