JACKIE ROBINSON

Jackie Robinson, well-known for his role in the Jamaican group The Pioneers, also worked as a solo artist. His recording career began when he auditioned alongside a friend for producer Joe Gibbs, who was just starting out at the time. Impressed by Robinson, Gibbs gave him the opportunity to record his debut single, Let The Little Girl Dance. During the same 1967 session, Robinson also recorded Gimme Little Loving which Sydney Crooks released under The Pioneers’ name. While Let The Little Girl Dance failed to gain notable attention, Gimme Little Loving charted successfully, ultimately leading to Robinson’s inclusion in The Pioneers. Despite this, he continued releasing solo singles through Gibbs’ Amalgamated Records, including a cover of Bobby Day’s Over And Over, which was issued in both Jamaica and the UK in 1968.
