JERRY JONES

When talented singer Jerry Jones from Birmingham, Alabama, was booked for a one-week engagement at the Kingston Hotel, she was so captivated by Jamaica’s charm that she extended her stay for several months. During her time there, producer Coxsone Dodd caught one of her performances and invited her to record at his recording studio, Studio One. Backed by the renowned Sound Dimension band, Jones laid down a collection of soulful standards infused with reggae riddims. These included a hypnotic rendition of Roberta Flack’s protest anthem Compared To What. That single, along with eleven other tracks, was compiled into the LP Jerry Jones At The Hotel Kingston, a unique blend of soul and island groove.
