JIMMY CLIFF
Jimmy Cliff, born James Chambers in St. Catherine in 1944, stands among the rare voices who helped define reggae’s story. Over six decades of touring, recording, and performing on stages from Kingston to Tokyo, he became a true ambassador of the genre. For many listeners, his legacy is tied to classics such as You Can Get It If You Really Want, The Harder They Come, Wonderful World, Beautiful People, Many Rivers to Cross, and his celebrated cover of Johnny Nash’s 1972 hit I Can See Clearly Now. Produced and arranged with Computer Paul and Clive Hunt, Cliff’s version was featured on the soundtrack of the 1993 film ‘Cool Runnings’. Issued as a 7″ single by Columbia Records, the track climbed to No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Cliff later released it through his own label, Oneness.
