KEN LAZARUS
Ken Lazarus launched his music career in the early 1960s and achieved international recognition in 1965 with the single Funny. Although not a prolific recording artist, Lazarus left his mark with a handful singles of note. Alongside his original material, he built a reputation as a highly commercial cover artist. Among his most memorable covers is his reggae-infused take on George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord. Lazarus infuses the spiritual song with his signature Jamaican style, shifting the original’s meditative, reverent tone into a mellow, rhythmic sway. The largely intact lyrics still resonate deeply, now carried by a warm, breezy arrangement. His vocals exude gentle sincerity, while the instrumentation lends the track a relaxed, soulful energy.
