JOSÉ FELICIANO
José Feliciano’s 1969 song Rain is a captivating ballad co-written with his wife, Hilda Pérez, also known as Janna Merlyn Feliciano, who played a key role in his early career as manager and tour promoter. A notable figure in New York’s Greenwich Village folk scene, Janna brought lyrical depth to the collaboration. The song uses rain as a metaphor for love’s growth and resilience, portraying a bond that flourishes despite life’s challenges. Feliciano, a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter, and virtuoso guitarist, is renowned for blending Latin, blues, jazz, soul, and rock into a distinctive acoustic sound. His breakthrough came in the late 1960s, especially with the 1968 album Feliciano!, which climbed to No. 2 on the US charts and cemented his place in popular music. Over the course of his career, Feliciano has released more than 50 albums in both English and Spanish, earning seven Grammy Awards and global acclaim for his genre-defying artistry and heartfelt performances.
