Derrick Morgan, a true legend with a massive catalog, gifted the world countless reggae anthems. Many of them became powerful singalongs embraced by lots of fans across the globe. One such gem, the self-produced and boastful sound system anthem Conquering Ruler, with the singer backed by the great Lynn Taitt & The Jets, originally dropped on Morgan’s own Hop label in Jamaica. Later, in 1968, this tune was released in the UK under the Island Records banner.
The Skank and Groove label brings back this genuine Derrick Morgan treasure, actually the original to Cornel Campbell’s Gorgon for producer Bunny Lee! Just like the original Island Records release, this bonafide classic is coupled with another 1968 gem: the massive hit Red Bum Ball by the dynamic vocal duo Lloyd & Devon, comprised of Lloyd Robinson and Devon Russell. This incredibly catchy track stands tall as one of rocksteady’s all-time greatest anthems.
