House of Fyah deliver new EP ‘Queen’ | News

UK-based reggae outfit House of Fyah deliver their most personal and emotionally charged release to date, the three-track EP Queen. The project pays tribute to the women who inspire, support and shape our lives, while also reflecting on love, heartbreak and the bonds that stay with us.

House of Fyah bring together musicians with deep roots in the UK reggae scene. Tony Mullings has played keyboards with UB40, while Matt Hoy has also been part of that band. Steve Clarke produced major dancehall names including Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel and Beenie Man, while Dennis Jarrett has collaborated with artists such as Maxi Priest and Tippa Irie.

Queen takes us through different sides of love and relationships. It starts with the pain of separation, moves into appreciation and affection, and ends with a powerful celebration of women.

Gone opens the EP with a deeply emotional look at a relationship falling apart. There’s no hiding from the hurt here. The lyrics feel honest and personal, capturing the confusion and sadness that come when love starts to slip away.

For The Love changes the mood, offering a warm expression of gratitude for the people who leave a lasting mark on our lives. It’s a simple, heartfelt celebration of love and connection.

Then comes Queen, the EP’s centrepiece. The track celebrates mothers, daughters, partners and the young girls growing into the queens of tomorrow. There’s admiration and respect at the heart of the song, but also a genuine sense of gratitude.

Musically, House of Fyah blend roots reggae, soul and contemporary production without losing the warmth and togetherness that define their sound. With Queen, they show just how much their music has grown while keeping the human touch firmly at the centre.

Here’s what the band’s members have to say about this release.

Matt Hoy, whose personal story inspired the title track, shares: “Having grown up as a single parent child, with only my mother to raise me, you realise just how wonderful women are — how powerful and empowering women can truly be. With an incredible mother and a wonderful fearless partner and mother to my two children, I wanted the song ‘Queen’ to be a celebration of all the incredible women in the world! The Queen EP is a celebration of Love, Life and Loss.”

Steve Clarke reflects on the EP’s emotional journey: “From the pain of a relationship coming to an end in ‘Gone,’ to the celebration of love, strength and beauty in the EP’s lead track, ‘Queen,’ each song captures a different chapter of the relationships that shape our lives. At the heart of the project is ‘Queen’ — a powerful tribute to women in all their greatness. It celebrates the mothers who raised us, the daughters who inspire us, and the women we love and share our lives with. It is a song of admiration, gratitude and respect for the strength, beauty and presence women bring to our journey through life.”

Dennis Jarrett offers his perspective on the tracks: “‘Gone’ speaks to love’s tussles and trials — the struggles we all know all too well. Every line carries feeling, drawn from things we’ve lived through ourselves. ‘For the Love’ is simpler: for everyone I’ve ever loved, and those I love still. Pure gratitude and affection, straight from the heart. ‘Queen’ honours every woman who matters. From my mother, to the ones I love, to the little ones who’ll grow into queens one day — this is for all.”

Tony Mullings speaks to the band’s journey and the timeless quality of the EP: “We as a band have been on a journey to get to this stage, with each new project we find new ways of opening the vibrant togetherness of the love for the music and our shared dreams. As father of six beautiful women and a woman whom I love completely, ‘Queen’ reminds me of how lucky I am to be loved. I only wish my mother was here to feel the love. This song has the power to be timeless and be reborn in the hearts and minds of other men. The EP is a powerful combination of knowing how great good music can be…”
