A Junior Byles – Auntie Lu-Lu
B U Roy – Double Six
Step back in time with this outstanding Skank and Groove reissue, featuring unforgettable tracks from singer-songwriter Junior Byles and deejay U Roy. Produced by the legendary Rainford Hugh “Lee Scratch” Perry and backed by The Upsetters, both songs originally debuted in Jamaica in 1973 on the Upsetter label.
At the time of these recordings, Byles and U Roy were rising as major forces in Jamaica, steadily gaining recognition in the UK, while Perry and The Upsetters had already solidified their influence by the late ’60s and early ’70s.
Junior Byles’ heartfelt vocals shine on his self-penned Auntie Lu-Lu, performed over a sublime reggae riddim that, as always, highlights The Upsetters’ exceptional musicianship.
Flipping to the other side, U Roy effortlessly rides a slightly altered version of the riddim in his unmistakable style, turning Double Six into a perfect counterpart to Byles’ vocal cut.
Featuring true gems of boss reggae, this 7″ single is well worth adding to your collection..
