Two African giants, Meta Dia and Stonebwoy, come together on “Ayee,” a new single that carries the weight of distance, migration, and the longing for home. Meta and The Cornerstones set the foundation with their warm, soulful sound, while Stonebwoy is being Stonebwoy, very present and always on point.

Recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios and produced by Ataul, “Ayee” sits somewhere between reggae, Afrobeat, and soulful storytelling. The track follows the story of someone who left home to build a better future, only to realise how heavy that distance can become. The chorus, in Wolof: “Ayee Ayee… Beugueunalla sama khol bi yaffi ne”, hits like a quiet call across borders, a reminder of the people waiting on the other side. Translated to English, it would be something like “Ayee Ayee… I love you, my heart reaches out to you even from far away.”

Meta explained that the track reflects the push and pull many people feel when they search for opportunities far from home. You hear that in the verses, in the moments of homesickness, and in the determination to keep moving forward. “‘Ayee’ is about the struggle and beauty of the journey — the hope that keeps us going, and the love that waits for us back home,” he said. “It’s a reflection on what we lose and gain when we leave in search of something greater.”

“Ayee” is the second single from Meta’s upcoming album Echoes of Time, expected in March 2026. It gives another glimpse into a project that looks at identity, memory, and the different paths people take in life. It’s great to see contemporary African music blending more and more with reggae and dancehall these days.
