This is a conscious four-track riddim EP release from the pairing of Ashanti Selah, the eldest son of the legendary soundman Aba-Shanti-I, with a very strong roots and culture approach, and riddim master Zac Harkavy. It is an excellent groove, with some haunting, atmospheric female backing vocals deep in the mix, with three lead vocals: Zed Regal’s Magical Connection is about finding one’s soulmate, Ashanti Selah’s own Overstand yearns for Equal Rights And Justice for all mankind and rides the riddim beautifully (shades of Morgan Heritage too), and Mad Sam laid down Unbreakable with no rehearsal, though you cannot tell on this Sizzla-inflected advice to the youth.
The final cut is an instrumental showcase for The King David Horns and is mainly flute-led, which makes for an original, different sound. Certainly well worth your time, and I look forward to hearing more…
