Half Pint, born Lindon Andrew Roberts in West Kingston, began his musical journey in the late 1970s, like so many of his peers, through the vibrant Jamaican soundsystem scene. Known for his smooth, melodic tenor, it wasn’t until 1983 that he finally dropped his first studio recordings. Throughout the 1980s he became one of Jamaica’s most celebrated voices, delivering a string of hits including Greetings, Money Man Skank, and Substitute Lover.
One of his earliest recordings was Posse Are You Ready, cut at Channel One Studio in 1983 with producer/engineer Soljie and the Roots Radics, riding the immortal Real Rock riddim. Now, thanks to Berlin’s Buyreggae, the track sees its very first official reissue on 7-inch vinyl – and we couldn’t be more grateful.
It’s no surprise this tune became an instant soundsystem favorite. Half Pint’s lyrics paint a vivid picture of the dancehall scene oy those days, while his vocal delivery, fused with the riddim’s heavy groove and authentic sound effects, transports reggae lovers straight back to Kingston’s steamy dancehalls of 1983. It’s a vital release that brings a scorching piece of reggae history back to the turntables. An absolute scorcher!
