Last month’s releasse of Joseph Lalibela’s song Chant Down Babylon along with its dub on 7” vinyl is now succeeded by the release of the Birmingham-born UK vocalist’s full-length vinyl LP, Ancient Breeze, done in collaboration with Vibronics and the Mafia & Fluxy Band. Dedicated enthusiasts of the UK reggae and dub scene will recognize what to anticipate when Vibronics from Leicester, England, is part of the production process.
Vibronics
Steve Vibronics, the driving force behind the reggae collective Vibronics, embarked on his reggae and dub journey thirty years ago. Since that time, Vibronics has established themselves at the forefront of the UK dub scene, boasting over 70 releases on their own SCOOPS label, alongside numerous albums, singles, and remixes for other labels, including Universal Egg, Jarring Effects, Dubhead, and Jah Tubbys. Their studio collaborations include artists such as Michael Prophet, Iration Steppas, Macka B, Aba Shanti, Brain Damage, High Tone, and Big Youth. Additionally, Joseph Lalibela now joins the ranks of a very long list of dub and reggae luminaries.

Vocalist Joseph Lalibela gained significant recognition through his collaborations with OBF and King Earthquake, emphasizes the impactful messages and spiritual themes that define deep roots reggae. He infuses his unique style and viewpoint into his music, drawing influence from reggae legends like Bob Marley and Burning Spear. His newest project, Ancient Breeze, features a showcase format with five vocal tracks on the A-side of the vinyl platter and their dub versions on the other side.
Vocal Part
The vocal part highlights Joseph Lalibela’s smooth yet soulful vocal delivery, while his lyrics tell stories deeply embedded in the roots reggae tradition. The mystical sound of the spiritual title track, Ancient Breeze, immediately captivates the listener with its laid-back, soothing vibes that foster a meditative atmosphere.
