Lloyd Woodrow James, known as Prince Jammy until his accession to the dub throne following his success with Wayne Smith and Sleng Teng, has here a new release that is, to quote the title of the album he shared with Lee Perry, most definitely “dub the old fashioned way”. He has drafted in many of his Kingston 11 regulars such as I Sax and Andre Dennis, mostly creating a rich, full sound – especially the horns – with which to emphasise his desire to bring peace to the warring nations and peoples of the earth, as depicted on the nicely retro sleeve design.

With the assistance of John John and Romeo “Shemmo” Facey, Jammy has utilised some classic riddims – the venerable Queen Of The Minstrel for African Queen, Nanny Goat for Dub For Peace, Revolution for Winds Of Change – updating them and then manipulating them, fusing together live musicians and digital sounds. Climate Action Dub and Ceasefire Dub utilise samples for Sly & Robbie and The High Times Band respectively and are two standouts, though as stated the whole album is a standout – the results are really rather wonderful. It is not difficult to understand why Jammy is still at the top of the pile; this is a release guaranteed to gladden the hearts of all true dub lovers.
