Back in 1983, Michael Palmer gave us his Showcase album, and just a couple of years later we saw that massive Robert French Meets Anthony Johnson LP. Both were produced by the legendary Nkrumah “Jah” Thomas in a crisp rub-a-dub style. In 1984, Greensleeves paired two rub-a-dub anthems on one piece of wax. It’s been a highly sought-after release for years, often fetching heavy prices on the collector’s market.
The riddim on I’m Still Dancing is pure magic. It’s a hypnotic, real-time capture of the dancehall energy from those foundation years. Flip the record and you get Robert Ffrench delivering a heavyweight roots message with his anti-war anthem No War. The production from Jah Thomas is top-shelf, especially with the Roots Radics laying down the foundation and Peter Chemist handling the engineering. It’s a wicked combination that still sounds fresh today.
Take my advice and don’t linger on this one. If you wait too long, you’ll be staring at a sold-out sign. Move fast and add this one to the crates while you can. Seen?
