Skilled Artist
Prolific Jamaican reggae musician Greg winston Rose initially began his career performing and recording as Mr. Perfect before rebranding himself to Perfect Giddimani. His breakthrough on a global scale occurred in 2005 with the hit song Hand Cart Bwoy, followed by the release of his first album, Giddimani, the subsequent year. Since that time, he has produced numerous singles and a significant collection of studio albums. While not every album achieved huge success or critical acclaim, it was his 11th album, released in 2017 and titled Live My Life Again, that garnered notable chart success. Like many others in the industry, Perfect Giddimani has spent two decades honing his craft and talent, maturing into a skilled artist. This evolution is evident when exploring a variety of his albums, including the 2023 released Ah Mi Yard.
Incredibly Enjoyable
Two years following the acclaimed Ah Mi Yard set, Perfect Giddimani’s latest studio album, Sibusiso (which means “Blessings” in Zulu), has arrived with 14 new tracks. Produced by Barcelona-based Victor Gallardo aka Sinky Beatz, this studio album is a refreshing addition to the current reggae scene, especially at a time when reggae enthusiasts are longing for more album releases that are expected to stand the test of time. And, without doubt, this one is such a release. The production is spot on, the riddims are expertly crafted, and the sound and vibe is simply great. Perfect Giddimani’s vocal performance, along with the supporting harmonies, is outstanding, and the lyrics are meaningful as well. All of this combines to make this album incredibly enjoyable to listen to!
Opening Part
In addition to an already known collection of tracks that includes previously released singles like Worthy For Jah, Selassie White Horse, Bob Marley Reggae, High Grade Mi Love, Jah We Pray, Joburg and Zion House, this album is packed with notable fresh content. Sibusiso (Blessings) kicks off with the remarkable message song Another Marcus Garvey, which truly shines in your ears. This opener, one of the album’s finest moments, perfectly sets the mood for the next track, the passionate sung Africa Mother Land, where the Rastafarian artist explores themes commonly found in roots reggae. The head-nodding Ethiopian Sunshine, radiating a laid-back vibe, beautifully wraps up the album’s opening part.
African Spiritual Connection
The next trio of tracks includes three earlier singles, commencing with the vibrant Selassie White Horse, a heartfelt homage to the legacy of Emperor Haile Selassie I. This song shines with a straightforward beauty that invites repeated listening enjoyment. Next up is the equally captivating Worthy Of Jah, which not only delights the ears but also resonates deeply within the heart and soul. High Grade Mi Love reaffirms that a Perfect Giddimani album can’t be complete without a ganja track, showcasing a level of passion that few reggae artists bring to the subject. Before the compelling single Zion House drops in, the title song Automatic Sibusiso (Blessings) emerges from the speakers. With each listen, this track reveals more of its charm. The spiritual number, Him Presence, is a remarkable creation that sends shivers down the spine. The solid track Jah We Pray, released in August 2024, fits thematically within the same realm. Also included is the hip hop reggae vibed single Bob Marley Reggae. While the title may initially deter some listeners, this homage to Bob Marley and reggae music offers more than what might be expected. It’s not a personal favorite, but it’s a commendable effort nonetheless. The last track, Joburg, is yet another previous single that serves as a vibrant expression of the African spiritual connection of this project. It’s worth noting the two collaboration tracks on the album as well. In a joint effort with Lutan Fyah, Perfect Giddimani presents the entertaining sound system anthem Champion In Action, while he partners with Anthony B on the sterling Rastafarian tune Rescue Me.
