Approximately fifteen years ago, a “reggae revival” breathed new life into the genre, bringing back the conscious vibes of classic reggae. One of its leading voices was Protoje, born Oje Ollivierre in Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica, and son of musical parents Lorna ‘Breakfast In Bed’ Bennett and Mike Ollivierre. Artists like Chronixx and Raging Fyah joined him in this resurgence, honoring the legacy of artists like Bob Marley and Burning Spear.

Protoje’s music masterfully blends reggae and dancehall with hip-hop, soul, and jazz. The hit single Who Knows, released in 2014 on Phillip “Winta” James’ Overstand Entertainment label through Buyreggae.com, showcased Protoje’s unique musical talents. The song—the first official single from his album Ancient Future—enjoyed heavy rotation on stations like 1Xtra and BBC Radio 1. Chronixx contributed the song’s catchy hook, a collaboration initiated by producer Phillip ‘Winta’ James, a former keyboard player for Damian Marley.

The magic of Who Knows lies in the perfect blend of Protoje’s singjay delivery and Chronixx’s soulful vocals. This combination, set against a powerful reggae riddim with a deeply resonant bassline, creates an irresistible sonic experience. The song’s powerful, uplifting message, which champions a life connected to nature and spirituality over materialism, resonates deeply with us. The B-side remix delivers a similarly compelling energy, making repeated, high-volume listens inevitable.
