Reggae legend Stranger Cole and Dutch singer Patsy—known offstage as Renske De Boer—teamed up under the guidance of producer Boss Capone, resulting in the critically acclaimed album Royal. (Be sure to check out our review of that album!) The single Dusty Brown served as a standout teaser for the record. Its upbeat ska rhythm is enriched by juicy brass interludes that evoke the golden era of Jamaican music.
The B side features Patsy with the exclusive track A Thing Called Love and that one took us by surprise. Naturally, we expected a track in the same lively style as Dusty Brown, but we were mistaken. A Thing Called Love is a ballad, strikingly arranged with echo-drenched vocals from Patsy and a subtly distorted guitar in the background, conjuring a haunting atmosphere. A truly distinctive tune!
