This is a surprising find from Sonia Pottinger’s High Note Records vaults from The Conquerors (Clifton Harding and Aston Campbell). Sonia Pottinger was a true trailblazer in Jamaican reggae, making history as the island’s first female record producer. From her Tip-Top Record shop on Orange Street in Kingston, she ran the influential Gay Feet and High Note labels. After some early ska tunes, she really hit her stride in the rocksteady period with huge tracks by The Melodians, The Gaylads, Ken Boothe, and Delano Stewart. The seventies saw her deliver fantastic productions with artists like Culture, Marcia Griffiths, Justin Hinds, Bob Andy, and Big Youth. She stepped away from the business in 1985 and sadly passed away at her home in Kingston on November 3, 2010.
