Exploring the Dutch music landscape, especially the area influenced by Jamaica’s vibrant sounds, reveals several bands that are definitely worth your attention. Given that the Netherlands is relatively small, it’s clear that connections exist among various bands. For instance, the rude reggae band The Sybians from Amsterdam, formed in 2021, includes former members of The Upsessions and De Hardheid, along with other seasoned figures from the Dutch reggae scene.

Following an early 2023 release of their debut EP under US-based Guerrero Records and a feature on the Dutch Skasjock 3 compilation LP, Saddle Up With The Sybians marks The Sybians’ first full-length album. Recorded and mixed at Earth Works Studio in Amsterdam, this album delivers thirteen captivating bass-driven tracks that resonate with the essence of authentic ska, rocksteady, and early reggae influences from Jamdown. With a blend of two organs, vibrant horns, pulsating drums and bass, along with some enticing vocals, the band’s funky, dirty musical approach sets the stage for an energetic vibe that makes you want to move your dancing feet and keep the party going.

Moreover, the lyrics in You Won’t Regret, which features a slower riddim, are more explicit. The initial two tracks, alongside Naughty Boy (Not Rude), are very solid pieces of work that leave you craving more of this musical delight. The remaining ten tracks, including several instrumentals, are definitely worth repeated listens. Like the first three songs, all are original compositions. While each track shines in its own right, standout moments include the instrumentals Burru Fever and Tinder Touch, followed by Love Don’t Turn Me On and the closing track, Whale Hunt.

You’ll find plenty of delightful sounds on Saddle Up With The Sybians, ensuring you won’t be let down when you give it a listen.
