Geneva-based collective The 18th Parallel teams up with Spanish engineer Roberto Sánchez for Dub Avalanche Vol. 1, the first chapter in a new dub experiment series from Fruits Records. The project, set for release on November 7th, 2025, revisits ten riddims from the label’s vault, reimagined and mixed by Sánchez at his A-Lone Muzik Studio in Santander.
In the spirit of Jamaican pioneers like King Tubby, Scientist, and Lee “Scratch” Perry, this record dives deep into the core of dub. Each track is a reworked version of instrumentals by The 18th Parallel, with echoes of legendary voices such as Dennis Walks, Cornell Campbell, The Viceroys, and Lone Ranger drifting in and out of the mix. The result is a sonic journey through time, where analog warmth meets modern precision.
Dub Avalanche Vol. 1 captures the essence of collaboration. The 18th Parallel’s tight musicianship and live energy meet Sánchez’s sharp ear for space, tone, and atmosphere. It’s an album that bridges generations of reggae engineering and production while keeping a clear nod to the roots of the genre.
The album was recorded between 2014 and 2024 at Mixing Lab Studio in Kingston by Gaylard Bravo and at Bridge Studio in Geneva by Mathias Liengme. Mastering was done by Sam John at Precise Mastering in Hawick, ensuring a clean, heavyweight sound.
The artwork by Mexican artist Melissa Santamaría visualizes the album’s concept through a retro-futuristic lens, a “sonic avalanche” that symbolizes the unstoppable force of dub music continuing to evolve. Released under Fruits Records, Dub Avalanche Vol. 1 stands as a modern roots dub statement. It’s the first volume in what promises to be a landmark series for fans of authentic, uncompromising reggae and dub.
