The Sensations – Everyday Is Just A Holiday
B Tommy Mccook & The Supersonics – Rock Away

The sweltering rocksteady classic Every Day Is A Holiday, with the soulful Bobby Davis as lead vocalist, stands out as one of The Sensations’ top hits for the Treasure Isle label. Initially released in 1969 in Jamaica and the UK by Treasure Isle and Trojan Records respectively, it featured Winston Wright’s organ cut to Joya Landis’ Moonlight Lover on the other side. In this reissue, the pairing of The Sensations’ Every Day Is Just A Holiday with Tommy McCook & The Supersonics’ Rock Away is more fitting, as it presents the straight instrumental version of the riddim. This enchanting riddim was subsequently revived by influential Jamaican producers such as Coxsone Dodd, Bunny “Striker” Lee, Joe Gibbs, and Phillip “Fatis” Burrell.

Following the Skatalites’ breakup in 1965, where Tommy McCook served as the bandleader, he received a proposal from producer Arthur ‘Duke’ Reid to assume the role of musical director for his labels, which he accepted. Subsequently, he formed a new band called Tommy McCook & The Supersonics. They became known for their distinctive sound, prominently featured in various Treasure Isle recordings from the rocksteady period. One of the notable recordings is Rock Away, which once more illustrates that Tommy’s saxophone sound is rarely harsh, with notes flowing smoothly.
