A The Soul Tops – Keep On Moving
B The Soul Tops – Good Things
Formed in the mid-’60s, a harmony trio consisting of Dion Cameron, Orville Robinson, and Joe Riley emerged in Jamaica. They recorded under several aliases such as The Soul Tops, The Three Tops, The 3 Tops, The Three Tones, and The Treetops. Regardless of the name printed on the labels of their singles, it was their unique ability to merge American soul sounds with Jamaican rocksteady beats that distinguished them and attracted a large following. Notably successful were several of their singles under the Treasure Isle label, including It’s Raining and Do It Right. In 1967, Duke Reid released their conscious track Keep On Moving alongside their great rendition of Chuck Jackson’s appealing soul tune Good Things Come To Those Who Wait. As ever, Tommy McCook and his band down on Bond Street delivered the horn-filled musical backbone that allowed The Soul Tops to truly shine. Both tracks are genuine rocksteady classics that were initially issued on a blank label in Jamaica before receiving an official release from Treasure Isle the following year.
